Annual Board Meeting Recap

With this year’s rallying cry, “Stand By Me,” the 2025 Annual Board Meeting reminded us of the impact we make when we stand together—and the meeting was a huge success!
We reflected on last year’s achievements, reviewed committee reports, received a fundraising update, discussed Science of Hope scores, learned about construction progress on the Rapid City campus and completed a financial review. We also honored and thanked eight outgoing Board Members and welcomed nine new members. Over the two days, we shared many memorable moments—and we’ve captured most of them for you to look back on.
Before the meeting began, Board Members and staff gathered for a delicious lunch. It was a great time to reconnect with familiar faces and greet incoming members.
After a brief roll call and introductions, we launched the meeting by celebrating last year’s accomplishments. The marketing team created this video showcasing the wonderful work done by our Board and staff throughout the year.

This year’s Mission Moment came from Child Advocacy Center Assistant Director Jessica Broullire. She shared about her meaningful work with the Pennington County Jail. You can find Jessica’s story in our 2025 Annual Report on pages 16 and 17.
Board Members also received an update on the Promise Appeal Campaign, which is still in the quiet phase. So far, we have raised a little more than $11.7 million. On Friday morning, CPO Jon Mammenga made a surprise announcement—Sanford Health pledged $2 million towards the campaign! This brings the total close to $14 million raised towards our $15 million goal.
We took time to dive into the Science of Hope. Business Development Officer Mike Groher presented the recent Hope score survey results from Board Members, staff and the children. Everyone had the opportunity to review the data and ask questions.
At the dinner reception, we welcomed former Board Member Phil Lampert and Dr. Cleve Trimbal—the new buyer of the Rapid City Campus. Dr. Trimbal shared that at this time, he has no immediate plans with the property, and he looks forward to getting to know the neighborhood. The Rockerville campus sold for $6.2 million, and CHS will lease the campus until the new one is ready. In a generous gesture, Dr. Trimbal plans to donate all lease payments back to CHS when we officially move into our new facility.
During the dinner reception, we thanked 11 members for their service and bid farewell to eight Board Members.
President and CEO Michelle Lavallee and Immediate Past Chair Jack Marsh performed a wonderful rendition of “Stand By Me,” with the help of Just Duet! Dueling Pianos. Their performance on the dance floor set the tone for the entire evening.

On Friday morning, we officially welcomed new Board Members and celebrated a peaceful transition of power, when Society Board Chair Amy Koenig and Foundation President Eric Lee took their new positions.
