April Board Meeting Recap

Many topics were addressed at the April quarterly Board meeting. One of the highlights of the meeting was that the full Board was presented with committee reports. Here are a few of the key takeaways.

  • Operations Update: 
    • Rapid City Day School Program: Director of Schools Mike Groher provided updates on the new Rapid City Day School (RCAS) program.
      • He outlined:
        • Key program milestones
        • Staffing structure
      • RCAS follows a year-round schedule
        • Similar to the Sioux Falls Day School model
        • RCAS offers comprehensive services to enrolled students
    • Outpatient Mental Health Clinic: Dr. Brian Wilson offered insights into the clinic’s diagnostic processes and emphasized how the integrated care model supports comprehensive mental health services.
      • He drew attention to the critical gap in local autism services
        • As of 2025, the national prevalence rate has risen to 1 in 31
      • He identified:
        • Opportunities to diversify the clinic’s revenue streams
        • Unmet community needs
        • A growing number of referrals from Wellmark
          • A shift toward broader payer diversification beyond Medicaid
  • Rapid City Campus Construction:
    • Dick Strassburg reported on a significant in-kind donation of office furniture from Ameriprise in Minneapolis, MN.
      • Approximately 100 offices will be furnished with:
        • Desks
        • Chairs
        • Bookshelves
        • Monitor arms
        • Other related items.
      • CHS will be responsible for coordinating and funding the transportation of the furniture to Rapid City 
  • Finance & Budget:
    • FY2026 Budget approved
