Guess for Good Contest
The origami swan is our symbol of transformation and hope. People across South Dakota are Joining the Fold to create origami birds and learn about Children’s Home Society. Many write notes of encouragement on the swans and cranes; each one represents support and hope for the children and families we serve.
Something special took flight on the Sioux Falls campus! A colorful flock of origami swans landed in the Admin Building display case, bringing with them a friendly little competition!
Last month, the CHS Marketing team hosted Guess for Good, a contest that invited students and staff to guess how many origami swans were displayed in the case. The winner earned bragging rights and a pizza party for their class or department.
The competition sparked excitement across all CHS campuses. Owen School, the Lincoln Building and Loving School all participated in a weeklong swan trivia challenge, and many Loving School classes made the trek over to the Admin Building. Jeff Parson’s fifth–grade class even brought a tape measure to calculate the volume of the case to improve their estimate.
One confident fifth grader held up his sheet of paper and declared, “I got the correct number right here!” As he left the building, he told his friends, “I can’t wait for that pizza party!”
Guesses ranged from four birds to one trillion! In the end, only three staff and two students came close to the actual total of 14,039 swans.
