Sledgehammers are swinging and construction crews are hard at work as demolition officially begins on the Rapid City Campus. Area D is transforming daily, and crews have made impressive progress so far. While we are excited about the fast-moving updates, the safety of our clients, staff and visitors remains our top priority. If you are on campus, please follow all site safety requirements, avoid construction zones and stay within approved CHS work areas.
Here's what’s been happening.
Area D (future home of the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic and CAC)
- Completed removal of all flooring
- Nearly completed removal of acoustic ceiling tile (just a few rooms remain)
- Demolished the all-site bathrooms and locker rooms

- Making great progress on mechanical, electrical and plumbing demolition
- Plumbing and HVAC demolition will wrap up by next week (excluding the new sewer line)
- Began floor and concrete cutting and removal
- Received first shipments of conference room furniture
- Additional furniture for Area D tentative arrival at the end of August
Areas A, B, C and Exterior
- Continued steady progress across the rest of the new campus
- Nearing final decisions on designs, finishes and operational layouts
Sioux Falls Campuses
Progress is moving forward on our eastern campuses as well:
- Contracts are in place for installing security cameras in Loving School and the Madsen House building
- Obtaining quotes to replace the HVAC system in the Van Demark building
- Hoping for a late summer or early fall 2025 completion date
Crews have been busy in Area D, removing all carpeting, flooring, a few walls and some ceiling tiles!
We’ve made great progress on mechanical, electrical and plumbing demolition. Crews are removing corridor walls and cutting and removing concrete to prepare for the new sewer pipe installation.
We received the first shipment of conference room furniture, matching the furniture in A Room with a View on the SFCH campus.
Crews continue steady progress on the all-site bathroom and locker room.
We collected nearly 80 doors from Area D, all of which we will save and reuse during the remodel to help reduce construction costs.
Crews are almost finished removing acoustic ceiling tiles throughout Area D.
Safety is our top priority. Please avoid these construction zones and stay within approved CHS work areas.
