Last CHS Wacipi at Rockerville
CHS held its final Wacipi at the Rockerville campus last Wednesday, and it was a beautiful, joyful day for residents and staff!
The day began with children selecting ribbon shirts and skirts that were generously donated and made last year by Jonni Hertel, a teacher at South Middle School in Rapid City.
Once everyone was dressed and ready, the Wacipi began. The emcee shared insight into the meaning behind each dance and explained the cultural significance of powwow traditions. After the introduction, the drum group began playing, signaling the start of the celebration as dancers entered the arena. Spectators also participated in a few dances, including the friendship circle and the potato dance.
The last Wacipi at Rockerville was more than a celebration. It was a day filled with culture, connection and unforgettable memories. We look forward to continuing this tradition at the new Rapid City Campus!
