Welcome, Val Simpson!

We are pleased to announce that Val Simpson joined CHS as Vice President of Philanthropy on June 30!

Val brings more than 30 years of experience in the Rapid City business community. Throughout her career, she has worked in entrepreneurial, government and corporate settings across the utility and financial services industries. She has also held leadership roles in finance, marketing, community impact and development. Most recently, she served as West River Director of Donor Relations for Friends of SDPB.

A lifelong volunteer dedicated to strengthening her community and state, Val has served on numerous local and state boards. She currently serves on the boards of the South Dakota Historical Society Foundation, South Dakota Cabin Owners Association, Elevate Rapid City's PAC and the West River Estate Planning Council. In 2025, Gov. Rhoden appointed Val to the Capitol Complex Restoration and Beautification Commission. She also co-led Rapid City's successful school bond campaign in 2020.

"I am excited to join an organization that I have long held in high regard for serving our state's most vulnerable with hope and healing," said Val.

We are excited to welcome Val to CHS and look forward to the leadership, experience and passion she will bring to our team!

Janet Andersen Retires!

It is with both gratitude and mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Director of Marketing and Communications Janet Andersen. Her final day with CHS will be Friday, July 10.

During her 12 years with the organization, Janet transformed the CHS brand and elevated its marketing and communications efforts. Through her vision and leadership, she built an award-winning marketing program that strengthened CHS's reputation and advanced our mission.

"Janet has built a program that has put our marketing head and shoulders above any other nonprofit organization in the state," said CPO Jon Mammenga. "From our annual reports, newsletters and mailings to our Join the Fold campaign, Promise Appeal materials and a thousand things in between, Janet's leadership has had a genuine and enormous impact."

To celebrate Janet's 12 years of dedication and service, we invite you to join us on Wednesday, July 8, from 4-6 p.m. in A Room with a View on the SFCH campus.
