Welcome, Jonni Hertel

We are excited to welcome Jonni Hertel as the new principal of Owen School and Lincoln School at our Rapid City Campus!

Jonni brings more than 12 years of classroom teaching experience to her new role. She earned her master's degree in Teaching, Learning and Leadership and her Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from Southwest Minnesota State University. Her dedication to education earned her the General Beadle Teacher of the Year award in 2023 and the Rapid City Area Schools Teacher of the Year award in 2024.

Throughout her career, Jonni has demonstrated a strong commitment to education and cultural understanding. She played a key role in developing a training guide to help teachers implement the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings Standards, bringing valuable knowledge and experience to her new position.

Jonni is also no stranger to our organization! For the past three years, she has helped organize our Black Hills Children's Home Summer Wacipi, volunteering countless hours to create a meaningful experience for the children we serve.

Above all, Jonni has a passion for helping children learn, grow and thrive. Her experience, leadership and dedication will be tremendous assets as we transition Owen School and Lincoln School to our new Rapid City Campus. We look forward to all she will accomplish!
